Six years.
That’s how long it had been since I’d last seen Melora.
Life just… happened.
We had once lived under the same roof, shared coffee, chaos, and kids. Then came new duty stations, new jobs, new people, and before either of us realized it, years had rolled by.
But God has a funny way of connecting dots you didn’t even know were on the same page.
One night, my son came home talking about this new girl he was dating — sweet, funny, down-to-earth. He showed me a picture, and something about her looked so familiar. I couldn’t put my finger on it, but I had that mom instinct that said, “Hang on… I know this family.”
Fast-forward a few weeks. I found out her last name.
I nearly dropped my coffee.
She was Melora’s cousin.
What are the odds? Six years apart, miles of distance, and somehow our kids found their way into the same circle — without even knowing the history between us.
I texted Melora right then and there.
“Okay, God, I see what You did.”
We laughed for hours, catching up on everything we’d missed. It felt like no time had passed at all — like the spare room, the shared dinners, and the chaos were just yesterday.
And now, in true “us” fashion, we’ve already started matchmaking again. Melora’s convinced my son should be dating her niece. I told her if that happens, I’m officially moving back in.
It’s wild, isn’t it?
How people drift, only to find each other again at the perfect moment — through the kind of coincidences that could never really be coincidence.
Some friendships are just written that way.
Not in pencil. In permanent ink.
